is there any special reason for you to be using 1.3.7?
LyX 1.4.1 is available in Fedora Extras for FC5, both lyx-xforms and
lyx-qt.

That is really strange, it should work out of box. In my case that
variable
is already defined:
$ echo $QTDIR
/usr/lib/qt-3.3
