I think this happens because you use the leqno option and have instant-preview on. It is due to the fact that LyX loads the preview package with the showlabels option. If you are not interested in viewing the labels in the preview snippets (you can always see them when you edit an equation), you can do as follows: 1) Locate the prshowlabels.def file. You can do this by issuing the command "kpsewhich prshowlabels.def" in a console terminal. 2) Rename prshowlabels.def as prshowlabels.def.save (in order to keep a backup copy). 3) Create an empty prshowlabels.def by issuing the command "touch <path_discovered_by_kpsewhich>/prshowlabels.def" When you reload your file the problem should have disappeared. To the LyX developers: I think that a further option could be added to Tools->Preferences->Graphics->Instant Preview. Now we have "Off", "No math", and "On". Perhaps "On (no labels)" could serve the purpose. -- Enrico
