Maybe it's a good idea to create a separate branch/directory on the SVN server for the installer and all related software? I have modified versions of Aspell, Aiksaurus, Dvipost and Libiconv for Windows.
Another benefit would be that I don't have to upload changes to both 1.4 branch and trunk, since the installers will be identical.
