  We do. The possible values for \inputencoding are:
  - real encodings: latin-1, ...

  - auto, that means search what is the encoding associated with the 
document's language

  - default, use latex default (this does not seem very portable). I guess 
that Jean-Marc knows the reason why we keep this option...

  I am working in the lyx2lyx module to convert to utf-8 so I need to know the

  The code that uses inputenc, grep for it and you will see. The code is 
spread in several places.
