importing latex

I tried - just to see how it goes - to import some tex - files to lyx. I
got many under /usr/doc ...

Result - of all that I tried, only one - 1 - succesfully opened.

So. JUST HOW finicky is lyx about "wellformed latex" anyhow ???
( IF I DO start using lyx I'd like some idea where I stand with all
those tex - files out there. Can I import 100% or 10% or 1% of them
...?  I think others would be interested to know, too )
