It is indeed a trick because we want to hide this feature for normal users. You can either copy an inset from an existing file and then modify it via its context menu or you insert in LyX's command buffer (menu View-Toolbars->Command Buffer) the command
info-insert and then modify it to make it referencing an icon, menu name or shortcut. regards Uwe
