Hello Bernt,
to interact with this list, write a mail to lyx-docs@lists.lyx.org. To
write a mail to the general user discussion mailing list send a mail to
lyx-us...@lists.lyx.org
--------------------------
To your questions. It is funny that you did use Word to write them ;-)
> How do I increase the size of the menu icons?
I added now a hint to the Tutorial describing the right-click into a
toolbar.
> How can I define the start-up text window zoom?
Go tho the LyX preferences (menu Tools -> Preferences) and change there
the zoom of the screen fonts from 120 % to a greater value.

“<reference> on page <page>”. Since I had a very short document and the
reference and key was on the same page, nothing was shown.
Can you please send this file? The reference should always be there
while the text "on page x" should then be "on this page".
> 3.4.2: it says “Protected Space (shortcut undefined)”,
Thanks, I fixed this now.

nice if I could find a continuously updated list somewhere.
You find it in the LyX preferences under Editing. Since this is the
tutorial such special issues are not mentioned.

(right-click, Paste Special) and choose amongst the possible reference
styles? (refer to the key, refer to the page of the key, refer to the
key + page of key, etc.)
This already in our wishlist. Since we have lack of manpower this
feature had not yet been implemented.

the IEEE template in LyX?
Please open a bug report in our bug tracker:

> 6. In SWP, I’m used to defining “fragments”, i.e. named TeX/LaTeX
structures. Thus, I can mark a portion of the document and save this
under a certain fragment-name (a file). Then I can use
Ctrl+fragment-name to invoke it. In the LyX world, this would be similar
to \fragment-name . Perhaps LyX has another way to do the same thing?
I think what you want to achieve are LyX branches. See the UserGuide
sec. 6.8.
> What if I later decide to change using subscript “\triangleright” as
symbol for operating trajectory, and instead use “\circ” to symbolize
operating trajectory?
You need to be consistent. So in case you used \circ only for
trajectories you could redefine \circ in the preamble. In your case you
used \circ also for other things.
In your example you can for example create a macro for trajectories.
E.g. name the macro "\traje" and bind it to \circ (see the Math manual,
sec 22.2 about macros). If you later change you mind you only have to
redefine the macro and use there \triangleright.
> 2. Suppose that I want to expand on an Article, and make it into a
Book. It would be very handy if there was a way to increase the level of
the headings by one… Thus, “section” in Article should be “chapter” in
the Book, “subsection” in the Article should be “section” in the Book, etc.
We discussed this from time to time and the result was not to automatize
this. The reason is that changing an article into a book is a
fundamental decision leading to more differences than the section
heading. E.g. in a book the section heading appear in the header or
footer. It is up to the user to adjust this as he likes.
> In longer documents/books, it is common to have a “Preface”, etc. in
the first part which is paginated using roman numbers.
a. How can I insert an unnumbered chapter in the section which is
paginated by roman numbers, while at the same time have this “section”
appear in the Table of Contents?
This works only for certain document classes. Personally I recommend to
use the KOMA-script classes that allow everything one can imagine to
typeset books.
So set your document class to "KOMA-script book" and then add the
document class option "titlepage". An example where this is done is
LyX's EmbeddedObjects manual.
Since this is a special feature of KOMA-script (as far as I know the
memoir class allows this as well, but I don't know how) this cannot be
described in the UserGuide. Sec. 6.14 of LyX's Additional Features
manual would be the right place. Unfortunately this documentation is not
up to date and nobody found time to update it yet. Every help is welcome!
> How can I add the config file for Modelica to LyX?
Please write a mail to the lyx-devel mailing list. Additionally open a
bug in our bug tracker and set it as enhancement. Please attach there
the proposed file.
> section 3.3.4.4, it is stated that “The title of this section is a
good example of using this feature”, referring to “Short Titles of
Headings”. Since I read the printed version of the document, I was
puzzled because I couldn’t see any long title needing a short title.
The UserGuide writes in sec. 3.3.4.4 that the short title will be used
in the TOC. Look at sec. 3.3.4.4 in the TOC of the PDF of the UserGuide
and you will see the short title.
> section 3.3.7.2 Resumed Enumeration… I have not been able to find a
style “Enumerate-Resume” *anywhere*.
Then you missed to load the module. Sec. 3.3.7 of the UserGuide states:
"The features described in this section require that the module
Customisable Lists (enumitem) is loaded in the document settings."
> section 4.5.2. In the item “Header”, there is a minor typo
Fixed now. Thanks.
I will resume to your other issues when I find time.
