Lyx was suggested to me by my friend Jason Ferrara who used it for his
Master's thesis at Penn State. I'm using it to produce a CD and book
commemmorating the life of my Aunt Susan, who died in September. Lyx
has done a much better job typesetting the document and placing all
the photographs than I could have done myself. I have one difficulty,
though, and don't quite know where look, and I've checked the mailing
list archives for this issue.

I'm using the "article" document class, as it does the nice, two-column
layout that I want. However, it puts the word "Figure" and a number
next to the caption of all the pictures. I like the number, but I
really need to get rid of the word "Figure", as it isn't appropriate
in this sort of thing.

I read the Users Guide, the Advanced Editing guide, the Tutorial, the
Introduction, and I looked around in the class files and the latex
files. I'm a bit baffled.

Great software--if I had to use Word or Adobe Photoshop to do this
project, I would've gone nuts.

Thanks.
