Another newbie question (I couldn't find anything on the archive)

I use the "BibTeX Generated References" tool of LyX,
but experience the following problem:

 I put my bib file in the same directory as my lyx file.
 When processing the file
 through File->View dvi or File->View Postscript
 I get an error message that BibTeX cannot find the bib file.

However, if I export the LyX file in LaTeX, and then run
LaTeX and BibTeX on it, there is no problem at all ...
(i.e., BibTeX ran from the command line DOES find the bib file).

Here is the error message I get, when BibTeX is called
through LyX :

------

-> This is BibTeX, Version 0.99c (Web2C 7.2)
The top-level auxiliary file: skip.aux
The style file: plain.bst
I couldn't open database file skip.bib
---line 24 of file skip.aux
 : \bibdata{skip
 :              }
I'm skipping whatever remains of this command
I found no database files---while reading file skip.aux
Warning--I didn't find a database entry for "DimAnal90"

(There were 2 error messages)
This is dvips(k) 5.78 Copyright 1998 Radical Eye Software
(www.radicaleye.com)
' TeX output 1998.10.22:0045' -> skip.ps_tmp
<tex.pro>. [1] [2] [3]
Warning: Cannot allocate colormap entry for "#D3B5B5"

------

And this is the message I get from running BibTeX from the command line
on the exported LaTeX file :

------

-> bibtex skip
This is BibTeX, Version 0.99c (Web2C 7.2)
The top-level auxiliary file: skip.aux
The style file: plain.bst
Database file #1: skip.bib
