No problem on i686 with Red Hat 5.2, kernel 2.0.36, bash version 1.14.7(1).

The problem occurs on Sparc 10 with Solaris 7, bash version
2.02.1(1)-release.
After applying the proposed patch of filetools.C the problem doesn't occur
anymore.
