RH6.0 RPM/ compile?

Hello,

Unable to find a 1.0.4pre4 RPM, I downloaded the source code.

./compile is giving me the following:

...
checking for gcc... gcc
checking for whether the C compiler ( gcc  ) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot
create executables.


I just installed RH6.0 on this machine, am I missing some libraries or
something?   Upgrading cpp and gcc to 2.95-2 didn't help.
