Unfortunately there is no real feature like that. The only possible
replacement would be the keyboard mapping support, but the
latexaccentinset which handles special characters only works for plain
LaTeX accents like \'{e} or some special characters like \l. It would
probably not be very difficult to extend it to understand (and emulate
on display) \oe{}, though.
