placement of table and figure floats

HI,

In a ms. I need to place tables before the figure captions. I have used
table and figure floats, and have the table float in a page of its own before
the figure captions (the figure captions are figure floats without any figure
in them, just the caption). However, when I view the document, the table
appears after the figures. I have been playing around with the float placement,
to no avail. How can I get this to work? (I am using Lyx 1.1.3 on Linux SuSE
6.3).
