The title page of an article is a special page which must be forced
e.g. by an explicit
\thispagestyle{empty}
after the \maketitle
Equivalent ERT in LyX (don't know a LyX workaround, maybe in the FAQ ?)
If you had written more than one page you would have seen that
other pages were empty :-)
