I searched under > inputenc.sty and it came right up. inputenc.sty is the core part of latex2e -- I am afraid, that it is missing there is something very screwed up with whole TeX distribution on your computer. I know nothing about Tru64, but I guess that most simple thing is to get fresh distribution of TeX for it and reinstall. Have a nice day Matej Cepl
