It is a representation of a playpus-like creature (a bill, a tail and
webbed feet are visible if you examine it closely while squinting a bit).
It was originally meant to be a place-holder till someone with real talent
provided us with a much nicer mascot.

We're still waiting.  Although I have made approaches to an artist friend
of mine to do something for us but he prefers to sketch real-life rather
than caricitures.  Another graphic artist (Will Adams) has been sketching
stuff for a while now but he has limited time and hasn't finalised a
submission yet.

Anyone want to start a LyX mascot competition on GIMP.org?  At least we
can provide them two things to work from:  the playpus clipart (so they
know what its supposed to be) and the lyx-creature from lyx.xpm.
