I guess you are, at least when it comes to the toc.
IMO the \selectlanguage command writes to the toc file, and only another call
to \selectlanguage can revert the toc back to the old language. But that is
just a guess.
And what is the end command (predefined as \selectlanguage{$$lang}, just like
the start command - in the language prefs dialog) used for??
