One suggestion:

If you go to Preferences -> Look & Feel -> Display -> Mark end of paragraphs,

You can see your paragraph ends signs. If there is paragraph end, this
generates a space between your figures, equations and text etc …

Extra space may not be always due to new paragraph, but worth to try….

Subject: LyX 2.3.0 --- unexpected spacing

Hi,

An unexpected space is produced in the pdf output when:

A displayed equation is followed by a figure float and then by text,
in which case a space appears before the text.

If the float is positioned in a different place, the spacing is as
it should be.

I have reported this as a bug.

Regards

Frank Salter
