Wolfgang: If you open Synaptic, supply your password, choose the status button (lower left) and put the filter on all, then enter "libqt" in the search box, you'll get a list of Qt4 and Qt5 library packages. I don't build LyX from source
how then do you get 2.3.1?
I'm waiting for Liv to create a .deb package and post it to the PPA (https://launchpad.net/~lyx-devel/+archive/ubuntu/release <https://launchpad.net/%7Elyx-devel/+archive/ubuntu/release>). Mint uses the Ubuntu releases. So I do not have it yet.
, so I don't know which ones you need, but the ones you need should be listed there.

this is apparently the one I need: qtbase5-dev
Good. Synaptic can install that for you (and will, with your approval, install any required dependencies).

Thanks, Paul, will wait for Liv's package. Will this be announced in this list?
Wolfgang
I'm not sure. My suggestion is to add the PPA. In the Mint menu, find and run Software Sources. Click on the PPAs button, then click "Add a new PPA..." and enter "ppa:lyx-devel/release". After that, refresh the package database (you'll be prompted to do this). From then onward, the update manager will add LyX to the suggested updates whenever the PPA has a new version. You won't get the new versions as quickly as those who compile from source, but on the bright side updates are about as painless as possible.
