So, finally, here is my question: /How do I move a frame from one part
of the presentation to another/, and, while you are educating me-- how do
I insert an end-of-frame where I need one?  I could not find "new
environment", and plain layout didn't do it.  I know this is about as
basic a thing as could be, and Lyx/beamer should not have hidden it as
well as they did, but that's what we have.

Ehud,

A second approach:

1. Open outline window to left of beamer class window if not already open.
2. Place cursor on the frame you want to move.
3. Use the up- and down-arrows at the bottom right of the window to move the
fram to where you want it.

Forgot about that (since I never use the outline window). Unless the slide is moving a zillion spots, that's certainly easier.
