There is a solution. But then you should be comfortable dealing with the related issues: Copy the lyx2lyx directory from the newer version. Case in point. I have the same issue on Fedora. I have a repository where I have the latest released development version: 2.4.0~beta5. While the first rc is not officially released I have backported the lyx2lyx version to 2.4.0~beta5.
