If all of the above is "flattended" out, that would be a "major" downside to
using Branching to me.
Good point. I don't know.
It's only the first paragraph that is affected. See below for why.
I notice that if I have a Branch and right-click and choose "Dissolve inset", that also removes
section assignment, etc., which again is a major downside: if I finally am happy with the text I have in the
Branch inset, I want to be able to take the text "out" of the Branch without ruining the
strucgture. Thus, I think it would be much better if all these structural elements are kept when
"dissolve inset".
Agreed.
Again, its only the first paragraph that's affected, though I agree it's
a pain. Workaround: Insert a blank line at the start of the branch, then
hit backspace to dissolve the inset.
It's a deliberate choice we made, if I remember correctly. The question
is: How do you 'merge' two paragraph types? Remember that the branch
itself is in a Standard paragraph (normally). So, when you dissolve it,
we have a Chapter (say) being 'merged' into a Standard paragraph. So
which one wins? I think the choice we made was: the 'outer' layout wins.
Could the behavior I observe be a result of using a KOMA book? I use
the latest v of LyX on Windows.
No, it's a general aspect of the 'layout merge' routine.
However, within the deactivated Branch the numbering may change
(starting with 1, for instance).
Yes, that's expected. The numbering is 'reset' within the branch, if
it's inactive. The same happens with notes, and anything else that does
not produce output.
