I'm not quite sure what you are looking for.  I suppose a way to type
those characters in!?  Generally, I use the compose key for that, and
the best way to find out what can be typed in via compose is to look at
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/locale/iso8859-1/Compose
(at least that is where it is on my computer).  This e.g. tells me that
for the cedilla i have to use c and a comma, so Compose-c-, -> ç
Of course you have to know the name of the character you are looking
for...
