Did you try to input  \addequation inside the math-box? LyX will not show
the leading \ and show the rest of the word in red. The command should,
however come out between the \begin{equation}, \end{equation} pair in the
TeX output (BTW, this is what happens with \sin and \cos and ...)

If \addequation is a valid command in math-mode for LaTeX, everything
should go well. (not tested, however)
