With due thanks to Tzafrir Cohen, who answered to my private
address, I reply to my own message, hoping to be useful also to the
LyX users community.
I found an answer in LaTeX: a recent package (2001/09/05), by Peter
Wilson, called "combine", provides a new document class that can
easily swallow any input file. Precisely what I was looking for. So
I can edit in LyX all the articles, and at finally combine the
single papers into a book of proceedings.
Many thanks to Peter Wilson for providing this very useful package.

All the best from a quite mild Riviera... in a frozen Italy!
