Just now (1.1.6fix3), the popup only supports \cite, all other citations
need ERT. (if you only need one different command, you can redefine \cite in
the preamble)
AFAIK, 1.2 will support different cite command from the popup.
(And of course this is a must for full amsref support (as well as for full
natbib support, say).
