Something like this (more general in fact) is already in the version
of boost used in 1.3.0cvs. I do not know however how safe it would be
to upgrade boost in 1.2.x.

You could probably ask the people who packaged tetex to fix that.

If you can come up with a patch to lib/configure.m4 that discovers
this by itself, I'd take it.
