Thanks to Remzi and Matej for your responses. Your solution required me to define a new pagestyle "myfancy" and to duplicate this by redefining the plain pagestyle. Thus I deduce that the first page of a chapter is by default in the plain style? Is there also a way to influence the vertical space that also seems to be default above the chapter number and name? I'd like the first page of the chapter to be like a regular page. Without "vertical indentation! ;) Rob
