graphics next to displayed equations

I'm trying to put very small line drawings next to displayed, 
multi-line equations.  I'd love to use a longtable, but as far as I can 
tell there's no way to put a multi-line displayed equation in one.  I'm 
currently just using negative vertical space.  This has two drawbacks:  
I have to tinker with the spacing by hand for each pair since they 
aren't the same size and at a page break the graphic ends up before the 
break and the equation after the break.  I can't avoid a page break as 
the list of pairs is more than a page long.

Any suggestions.

I'm using article class.
