If you are using koma-script anyway, I'd recommend considering scrpage2 (which is part of the koma bundle) instead of fancyheadings. IMHO, it is much more intuitive, much more configurable and gives better results together with koma-script's sophisticated page layout algorithms. The usage is described in the koma-script manual (scrguien.pdf). Regards, Juergen.
