binding mathrm

Hi,
In my .bind file I could bind math-mode but
the binding for mathrm below does not seem to take effect.
\bind "C-m"                    "math-mode"
\bind "C-r"                    "mathrm"
When I hit C-r inside math mode the display bar shows "unknown 
function".
