it is no problem to insert an external preamble. E.g.: first line in your Format->Document->Preamble \input pramble.tex
and in pramble.tex you can have a line like
\PassOptionsToPackage{textwidth=7.5in}{geometry}or, when you do not have ny custom setting in Format->Document->border->custom then use
\usepackage[textwidth=7.5in]{geometry}Herbert
