Was there a LyX 1.2.4? LyX 1.2.3 was released on January 9, 2003. LyX
1.3.0 was released on February 7, 2003. The current stable release is LyX
1.3.5, released on October 6, 2004.

No matter whether 1.2.4. exists. The basic question is still the
same: Is there a reason you're using such an old version?

Anyway, you can't find the PostScript entries in your menus because LyX
has been unable to find a PostScript viewer. If you launch LyX from the
console and run Edit->reconfigure, you should get a whole heap of info
printed to the console window. In there will be the results for searching
for a PostScript viewer.

In LyX 1.3.5, I get:
checking for a Postscript interpreter... (gs)
checking for a Postscript previewer... (gsview32 gv ghostview)

Thereafter, if I look at the 'Conversion->Formats' tab in my
Edit->Preferences dialog I find that the PostScript format has a
        Viewer: gv -swap

You can always enter something here by hand and press 'Modify' to adjust
the setting within the dialog followed by 'Apply' or 'Save' to make it
available to the rest of LyX. (This assumes that the interface hasn't
changed much between 1.2.4 and 1.3.5.)
