But then you break semantic markup. Not everyone wants url's to be typeset in typewriter mode (actually, I think that this is against all typographic and aesthetic rules anyway).
we were talking about urls in footnotes ... and a workaround.
and by the way: if you write a book, then you have in the end a lot in your brain, but not typographic rukes ... ;-)
