There is no problem with .ps. I use it all the time. What I meant was that the .pstex_t file does not need to be generated by xfig. So if one has a .ps file produced by some other software one can add latex text to it and preview the whole image in Lyx.

or with LyX insert->graphics->file.ps

wher is the problem with ps files?
