You didn't mention before that you need footnotes. So use the titling package (http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/titling/). Add the following to the preamble: \usepackage{titling} \preauthor{\noindent{}} \postauthor{} HTH, Jürgen
