Yup...just to remain completely off topic, the one big
feature of latex over word for me is the handling of
pictures and other floating objects. Word has a
tendency (or a positive need) to move them about in a
seemingly random way. Which would be OK, but given the
way it handles paragraphs, this then totally ruins the
rest of the document.

With papers, the only way I found to get around Word
was to write the text and keep the pictures seperate.
Once the text was done, I would then move the pictures
in. Particularly a problem for conferences, where the
text is often two column. Word is really bad with
floats...
