I will share the solution/explanation as soon as I find it. Unfortunately this is not yet the case, but I do have a related query that may clear up the problem... How does the Bibliography styling "apalike" react when there are references to two works by the same author(s)? It occurs to me that perhaps the catalyst for this strange behaviour was my citing the same authors twice for two different articles. Does anyone know if apalike starts numbering the citations when there are more than one by the same author, perhaps? Thanks again for any help anyone can offer!
