I was not suggesting that, but it should also work. In the meantime I have created an updated diff file and a hopefully better description at http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/Linux. Please try that instead. I would build the .debs myself, but I have no clean sarge install and nobody would be able to install them. Georg
