I recommend checking out XeTeX. You can use XeTeX in LyX quite
easily. It's what I use for switching from Arabic to Arabic
Transliteration to German and back and it's a solution that makes
little stress, all other solutions are too complicated or buggy
(though they can be even more powerful, if you can use them. Also,
when using XeTeX, there are still many options or packages that you
can not use (yet)). Said that, I do not know anything about Chinese
and it might well be a lot easier to use it in LaTeX (also I can
imagine it being similarily complicated as Arabic, so I answered to
your mail).
