I installed LyX 1.5.4 as you suggested. Everything works fine now except:
A) The Update PDF icon has disappeared and LyX cannot export a PDF file if I
am currently viewing a PDF rendering of the current LyX file.
Then you are on Windows Vista, right? For an unknown reason the program that handles PDFs when they
are open fails on Vista. I will provide a workaround, but me was told I first should wait if the
Vista Service Pack 1 fixes this. Have you installed the Service Pack 1 for Vista that is available
since 2 weeks at microsoft.com? If not, does it work when you install it?
If nothing helps, reinstall LyX 1.5.4 using the official installer that uses a different method to
update PDFs. But now you have a working and full featured LaTeX installation and the third-party
programs like Ghostscript are up to date.
B) At start up, a command window appears with the statement:
lyx: Disabling LyX socket.
This shouldn't be the case. This only appears when directly double clicking on the lyx.exe. When
double clicking a LyX-file or via the start menu, this console window is hidden.
Nevertheless, it doesn't matter if you see this window or not since it doesn't change any
functionality of LyX.
