I use xfce and configure the clipboard applet to "separate management of the clipboards". If pasting into LyX fails, I can open the clipboard-list and select the desired entry. After that, a middle click in LyX usually works as expected. I would like the default behaviour to resemble LaTeX (and not only LaTeX) conventions that line-breaks are irrelevant but blank lines start a new paragraph.
