Export Menu Empty

Not long ago I upgraded to LyX 1.5.4, but when I tried today to  
export a LyX file as a pdf, the menu File > Export listed only one  
option -- Custom -- and choosing that made LyX quit. Any idea why the  
various Export options are not appearing?
