I was just hopeful that someone could point me to a how to, on installing
truetype fonts for use in LyX.

I have found multiple sites on-line but all seem to require tools that
aren't
installed or available to my system, or I just couldn't get them to work.

Linux distro: Fedora 9
LyX version: lyx-1.5.6-2
truetype font: liberation

If anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Is this the ttf2tfm issue?
I am assuming so since I don't have the tt2tfm tool available to me. Am I
supposed to just download it and use it anyways? Just didn't know if there
was a newer/better way to do this.

I'm no expert on this, I'm afraid. But you could certainly try downloading it from cvs, compiling it, and using it.
