Thanks.. so looks like pdftex and pdflatex are the same thing huh.. sorry for the silly qn then.. reason I asked was that when I view DVI using TexShop it shows "Pdftex" as the Typeset and it seems that the fonts are better (more solid lines) in this view than in the PDF generated via any of the export options when viewed using Acrobat. So I was trying to see if it was possible to obtain the same quality in the PDF export from LyX..
