Or what > could it be? It's an incomplete LaTeX installation. LaTeX is a highly modular system, so normally it is a good decision not to install all available packages. Opinions on what is regarded a "complete" installation differ. If you do not need the PDF version of the help documents, you can just ignore this (until you possibly need the mentioned packages for your own documents). Otherwise, install the required LaTeX packages, re-configure LyX and try again. For more detailled help we need to know: What LaTeX distribution do you use? On what system? Günter
