LyX uses the oolatex script to export to open document. On my Debian
Lenny, tex4ht is in the path, but oolatex is
in /usr/share/tex4ht/oolatex, which is NOT on the path. Since Ubuntu is
a Debian rip-off :-) it may be the same there.

Fix with a symbolic link: 
ln -s /usr/local/bin/oolatex /usr/share/tex4ht/oolatex
