We recently had this topic and came to the conclusions that this doesn't
work correctly on Windows, because there is a problem with the available
fig converter TransFig on Windows.
No, it works fine if you install the correct packages:
- install jfig, a quite good XFig clone done in java. It is free as in
beer. The configure script of LyX will find it if it's in the patch.
- dowload the transfig package from the WinFig homepage. Winfig is a
shareware program that is useful only if you get a license. But the
transfig package is open source and you can install it without problem.
This is all out of my memory, you'll need to google a bit for getting
the proper names and locations.
