Given that you are on Linux, try if setting up a file .profile (note the trailing dot!) in your home directory with the following content helps (you might need to adjust the paths): export TEXMFCNF=/usr/local/texlive/2013/texmf/web2c:$TEXMFCNF export PATH=/usr/local/texlive/2013/bin/i386-linux:$PATH Jürgen
