It is possible, but it would be complicated, would require changing the fec file format, and would give worse results. (The FEC blocks for a member can't be used to repair other members. More FEC blocks are required to achieve the same level of protection).

It would still give a better result that fec files for the same data not archived. And that caveats can be explained in the manual.

Because of the above, I would prefer not to implement multimember FEC unless whole-file FEC proves itself inadequate beyond repair for some use.

I probably don't get all the implication of what these feature would imply, but as it is today, fec files are useless in practice for large files. It takes 20 times more times to create 2% of recovery files than it takes to make another copies of the archive and you need an unreasonable amount of RAM when individual files are big.
